These tips give you basic idea on how to place position of different rooms like kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms etc as per principles of Vaastu

The protocol for construction of a house depends on the direction it faces or the direction of the road that serves it.I fthe house is served by a north road then it is a north house.Similarly for the other three cardinal directions also. However if two adjacent roads serve your plot like north and east then your house is a north east house.Below are vaastu tips for each type of house.

• The building with a road in the north is a north building


• Charecteristic - The effects of the northern block is on the female members of the family.It also deals with financial abilities within the house.These are usually women dminated family


• Building - The building has to be placed more towards the south west corner


• Open Space - The northern frontage space should be maximum.The eastern side open space should also be more.The south & west open space should be minimal.


• Main Door - The entire width of the frontage should be divided into two and the eastern half should be chosen for placing the main door.The door facing north west is bad.The main door can be placed in the eastern facade of the house in the north east sector or in the mid east.


• Back Door - If the main door is in the north, place the back door straight opposite to it in the south.If main door is in the north east, the back door can be placed in the south facing south east.If the door is in the east then the back door can be placed in the midwest.If the door is in the east facing north east then the back door can be placed in the west facing nrth west.


• Kitchen - Place the kitchen in the south east of the house.This is the best location to have it


• Bedrooms - Place the master bedroomin the south west corner of the house.Children bedroom is to be placed in the west or north west


• Bathroom - A toilet & bathroom combined can be present in the north west corner.Individual toilet in the south east and a bathroom in the south west may be built.An attached bathroom with toilet in the south west bed room is to be in the northwest of the bedroom


• Prayer Room - Place the prayer room in the north east sector.However if door is also there place prayer room in the mid north.If the hall is to be placed here, a small partition can separate the puja room.The idols or pictures to face east and the person prays facing west


• Staircase - The stairs should be placed in the south west.The internal staircase should commence climbing from the east to west.External staircase should not be in the north east


• Overhead Tank - Place the overhead tank in the south west corner of the terrace.Also try to make it the highest position on the house.


• Verandah - If the Verandah is in the north which is slightly lower in elevation than the floor of the main house is auspicious.


• Balcony - Avoid balconies in the south or west


• Portico - Enclose the north east in any portico.Do not build portico with heavy pillars


• Slants - The slant in the frontage towards north is auspcious.It will add health to females in the family.


• Sump - The ideal position to have the sump, is on either side of the line connecting north east corner of the plot and north east corner of the house.


• Gate - The gate should be less elevated than the main door.The gate should be placed in the eastern half or northern half of the frontage.


• Compound Wall - The North wall should be cnstructed after completion of the house.The compound wall should be shorter & thinner in the frontage than in the south.Similarly, the east wall should be shorter and thinner than its opposite wall.


• Septic Tank - Central east sector is permissible and similarly central portion of the north is permissible.Avoid in the backyard.

• The building with a road in the east is a east building


• Charecteristic - The effects of the eastern blocks is on the sons of the family.The people are helpful knowledgeable and famous.They love comforts of life.


• Open Space - There must be open space in excessfor the frontage.It leads to prosperity.


• Main Door - The door can be placed in mid east or north east facing the east side.It can also be placed in the north facing north east.Door in the mid east is auspicious.


• Back Door - No back door in the south if main door is facing east.For main door in the mid east a back door in the mid west is allowed.For door in the east facing north east, have a back door in the west facing north west zone.Passage from central east to west or south facing south west is not allowed.


• Kitchen - Kitchen has to be placed in the south east for best results.Those not prefering a kitchen in the frontage can have it towards the north west.


• Bedrooms - Have two bedrooms in the southwest and northwest.The elders to sleep in the southwestbedroom and the children to sleep in the northwest bedroom.


• Bathroom - Bathroomsand toilets can be had in the northwest corner or midwest.However exclusive toilets may be had in the south east and exclusive bathrooms only in the southwest.


• Prayer Room - Prayer room should be in the north east. The idols or pictures facing east and praying to be done facing west.


• Staircase - The internal staircase should be placed in the south west zone with climbing upwards towards south or west.If there is landing halfway,the movement should be clockwise.


• Overhead Tank - Place the overhead tank in the south west corner of the terrace.Also try to make it the highest position on the house.


• Verandah - If the Verandah is in the north which is slightly lower in elevation than the floor of the main house is auspicious.Verandahs onthe western or southern sides will have to be balanced by wider verandahs n their opposite sides.The same holds true for balconies.


• Balcony - Balconies have to be installed in the north or east sides.Avoid balconies in the south or west


• Portico - Enclose the north east in any portico.Do not Let the portico touch the east wall.Do not contruct portico with heavy pillars.


• Slants - The slant in the frontage towards East is auspcious.An eastward slant provides excellent results for the male members.It adds to health & fame.


• Sump - The sump can be placed in the mid east, north eastor north.The north east sump should not bisect the imaginary line connecting the north east corners of the plot and the building.


• Gate - Place the gate on the northern half of the frontage.Do not place arch over the gate.


• Compound Wall - The frontage wall should be lower than the backyard western wall.The compound wall should be shorter & thinner in the east than in the west.Similarly, the north wall should be shorter and thinner than its opposite wall.


• Septic Tank - Place the septic tank in the mid north or mid east.

• The building with a road in the south is a south building


• Charecteristic - The house shows its effectspredominantly on the female members of the family.


• Open Space - The south facing plot should have no or minimal frontage or open space.If the south facing house is built copying the north facing house opposite t it in the street, it is disastrous.


• Main Door - The door can be placed in mid south or south facing south east.Door in the south facing south west zone causes chronic illness.


• Back Door - Back doors essential in the north, if the main door is placed facing south.If the main door is laced in the mid south, place the back door in the mid north or north facing north east.There should be no back doors in east or west sides.


• Kitchen - Have the kitchen in the north west as the entrance will be in south east.The cook should face east and cook at a hearth in the south east corner of he room.Lofts should be in the west & south and washing sink should be in the north east.


• Bedrooms - Do not place the bedroom in the north east. If north west is to be placed with a kitchen then have abedroom in the southwest and another in the west.


• Bathroom - Have a toilet andbathroom together in the north west or west zones. If not possible havebathroom in the south west.If bedroom is present in the south west have a tilet and bathroom in the nrth west of that bedroom


• Prayer Room - Prayer room should be in the north east. The idols or pictures facing east and praying to be done facing west.


• Staircase - The internal staircase should be placed in the south west zone with climbing upwards towards south or west.If there is landing halfway,the movement should be clockwise.


• Overhead Tank - Place the overhead tank in the south west corner of the terrace.Also try to make it the highest position on the house.


• Verandah - A verandah in the south necessitates a larger verandah in the northern direction.


• Balcony - Avoid balconies in the south or west.If necessary enclose them in grills and place a larger balcony on the northern side.


• Portico - Porticoes in the south should not be built with pillars and should exist as cantilevers.


• Slants - The building should not slant towards south. If slant is necessary, have another slope in the northern side of the building.


• Sump - The sum can be placed in the mid east or north east.


• Gate - The frotage should be divided into two halves and the entrance t be placed in the south towards south east.Placing it towards south west would make it one of the most unlucky houses.


• Compound Wall - The compound walls in the south and west shuld be taller and thicker also than the walls on the opposite sides.


• Septic Tank - Place the septic tank in the mid north or mid east.

• The building with a road in the West is a west building


• Charecteristic - This plot bears its influence on the male progeny of the house.


• Open Space - No open space is needed in the west.There should be minimal space in west and south when compared with their opposite sides.


• Main Door - The main door of the building is to be placed in the mid west or in the northern half of the frontage.


• Back Door - If the main door is in the mid west then backdoors are allowed in the mid east and in the east facing north east.If the main door is in the wst facing north west the back door could be in eastern north east, but never in east facing south east.


• Kitchen - The kitchen has to be placed in the south east corner of the house.


• Bedrooms - The bed rooms should be in the south west, south or west.


• Bathroom - Bathrooms in the south west and toilets in the south east are allowed.A bedroom in the southwest could have a toilet & bathroom on its north west.


• Prayer Room - Prayer room should be in the north east. The idols or pictures facing east and praying to be done facing west.


• Staircase - Thestaircase should be placed in the south west.The external staircase should be in the frontage itself.The climbing should be from north to south initially withlandings halfway with clckwise turning.


• Overhead Tank - Place the overhead tank in the south west corner of the terrace.Also try to make it the highest position on the house.


• Verandah - A verandah in the west necessitates a larger verandah in the eastern direction.


• Balcony - Avoid balconies in the south or west.If necessary enclose them in grills and place a larger balcony on the eastern side.


• Portico - Avoid porticoes with pillars.It shud be extension of first floor and should not be lower than the first floor level.


• Slants - The building should not slant towards west. Slants towards the north & east are auspicious.Slants, if necessary in the west should be compensated with slants in the east.


• Sump - The sum can be placed in the mid north or north east.


• Gate - The main gate should be placed in mid west or in the northern half of the frontage.The west facing north west gate is very auspicious.


• Compound Wall - The compound walls in the south and west shuld be taller and thicker also than the walls on the opposite sides.


• Septic Tank - Place the septic tank in the mid north or mid east.
